Whale and seabird cruise in the Altafjord

Whale and seabird cruise in the Altafjord with MS Kautokeino

Join an unforgettable whale and seabird cruise with MS Kautokeino in the Altafjord and experience some of the most spectacular Arctic wildlife Northern Norway has to offer.

Each autumn, large schools of herring enter the Altafjord, and from October onwards, whales follow this rich food source. This creates unique opportunities to experience majestic species such as orcas, humpback whales, and fin whales in their natural environment. Seeing these impressive animals move through the fjord is, for many, a true highlight of visiting Northern Norway.

The areas where the whales gather also offer excellent opportunities to observe sea eagles – often called the king of the skies – as well as several seabird species thriving in this rich Arctic ecosystem. The trip therefore offers a perfect combination of whale watching and nature experiences along the beautiful Altafjord.

The tour lasts approximately five hours, and MS Kautokeino quickly reaches the areas where whales are typically found. This allows plenty of time for observation, photography, and enjoying the silence and spectacular Arctic fjord landscape.

MS Kautokeino is a comfortable vessel well suited for Arctic waters, featuring indoor seating areas and spacious outdoor decks for optimal viewing. On board, we serve coffee, tea, and light refreshments so you can relax and enjoy the experience throughout the journey.

Meeting point: Havneveien 24, 9515 Alta
